Mindful Music

Langley High School Fantasia Asia Orchestra concert

Our Story

After studying both trumpet and piano for many years, our founder, Mia Bao developed a deep appreciation for music, both sound and impact. As such, she decided to research the larger effects of music on the mind in both a cultural and cognitive sense. She considered the great impact that music has had on cultures across the world and how the product of each culture resulted in not only music but also different musical instruments that each held their own significance. Her findings revealed that learning to play a musical instrument, especially at a young age, could be incredibly beneficial to cognitive functions such as attention and memory. Realizing how this could benefit so many people, we started this non-profit organization. By matching skilled mentors with young students looking to explore their musical talents, we are able to not only improve their instrumental ability, but also their cultural, social, behavioral, and cognitive abilities, which can aid them greatly in any and all aspects of their lives. We hope that our work can help our community and all those who seek for more through music.

What We Do

At Mindful Music, we not only provide a musical education to all those who seek it, but also make direct donations of musical instruments to young children in elementary schools who do not have access to their own. Our goal is to help as many disadvantaged students as possible. We have been accomplishing this goal by working with the Langley PTA to fund donations, researching to find schools where our work will be the most beneficial, and finding highly skilled mentors to teach each student to the best of their ability.

Donations

All Donations go towards supporting children by buying musicals instruments to use during lessons and help lower the cost of private lessons. To donate, please contact us.

Our Mentors

Our mentors are all carefully chosen with many years of experience. They each excel at the instrument that they teach and can provide a welcoming and educational experience for each tutee. Every mentor comes from a unique background and has a unique perspective to share on their respective instruments. They seek not only to teach their students’ how to improve their playing, but also to improve their students’ understanding of their culture through music.
